Wilms tumor 1 antisense RNA (WT1-AS), also known as WT1-AS1, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) gene locus (Source: NCBI Gene ID 51352). It serves as a critical regulator of the WT1 gene, which encodes a transcription factor essential for urogenital development and frequently implicated in oncogenesis (Source: PubMed 26153814). WT1-AS modulates WT1 expression through several mechanisms, including the formation of RNA-DNA triplexes or the recruitment of epigenetic modifiers like EZH2 to the WT1 promoter, thereby influencing transcriptional activity (Source: PubMed 31114145). In clinical settings, dysregulation of WT1-AS is observed in various malignancies; for example, its overexpression in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is linked to poor prognosis and chemoresistance (Source: PubMed 26153814).
