Overview

Wilms tumor 1-derived epitopes presented on MHC molecules are short peptide fragments from the Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) protein that are processed and presented by MHC class I or class II molecules on the surface of cells, especially tumor cells overexpressing WT1. These epitopes can be recognized by CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (when presented on MHC class I) or by CD4+ helper T lymphocytes (when presented on MHC class II), leading to a specific anti-tumor immune response. WT1 is a zinc finger transcription factor frequently overexpressed in various human cancers, such as leukemia and some solid tumors, making its peptide-MHC complexes important therapeutic targets for cancer vaccine development and adoptive cellular immunotherapy approaches. The use of WT1-derived MHC-restricted peptides has advanced to clinical trials, primarily as vaccine candidates aiming to stimulate robust cellular immunity against malignancies expressing WT1[1][4][7][9].
