Target intelligence / Profile preview
Wisdom enhancement is a psychotherapeutic concept and clinical framework rather than a biological target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. In clinical psychiatry, it refers to a protocolized intervention—often termed the 'wisdom enhancement timeline technique'—used to augment Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for conditions like depression and anxiety in older adults [1, 15]. The process involves structured life-review and reflection to foster self-compassion, resilience, and adaptive coping mechanisms, thereby improving mental health outcomes. While researchers have proposed a 'neurobiology of wisdom' involving a balance between the prefrontal cortex and the limbic system, wisdom itself remains a multidimensional psychological construct [2, 4]. Because no single molecular pathway or receptor has been identified as a mediator for wisdom, the term does not represent a valid therapeutic target for drug discovery or development.
Not a molecular mechanism; in clinical settings, it utilizes life-review and cognitive restructuring techniques to promote psychological resilience and self-acceptance [4, 15].
