Wound bed

The wound bed refers to the physical tissue area at the base of a wound, which may include granulation tissue, slough, necrotic tissue, or other components depending on the stage of healing and pathology. It is a structural and pathological term in wound management, not a therapeutic molecular target, molecule, protein, receptor, gene, or structurally defined biological target. Its appearance is an important clinical marker for wound assessment and management. The term is primarily used in the context of wound care to assess barriers to healing, evaluate the type and quality of tissue present (e.g., granulation, necrotic, slough), and to guide treatment interventions such as debridement and infection control. It features heavily in frameworks for chronic wound management but does not denote a single molecular, protein, or pharmacological therapeutic target.
