Wound healing pathways

Overview

Wound healing pathways comprise the coordinated cellular, molecular, and biochemical processes by which tissues repair themselves after injury. Key events include hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling, regulated by interactions among immune cells (neutrophils, macrophages, T cells), keratinocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and a complex network of cytokines, growth factors, integrins, and extracellular matrix proteins. Disruption or dysregulation of these pathways can result in chronic wounds or pathological scarring. No single molecule or receptor is termed the 'wound healing pathway'; rather, this designation covers multiple targets and biological processes across several cell types and tissues.
