Wound Healing via Re-epithelialization

Molecular classification
Cellular Process, Biological Pathway
01

Overview

Wound healing via re-epithelialization refers to the restoration of the epithelial layer over a wound. This involves coordinated cellular and molecular events that result in resurfacing the wound with new epithelial cells (primarily keratinocytes). The process includes keratinocyte activation, migration, proliferation, and differentiation, regulated by growth factors, cytokines, MMPs, integrins, and ECM components. Failure or delay in re-epithelialization leads to chronic non-healing wounds.
