WW domain binding protein 11 is a nuclear protein encoded by the WBP11 gene, primarily involved as a splicing factor in pre-mRNA processing. It contains two proline-rich motifs that mediate binding to other proteins with WW domains, such as the nuclear protein Npw38, and interacts with SH3 domain-containing proteins. WBP11 colocalizes with the mRNA splicing machinery and may regulate or facilitate the splicing of pre-mRNAs, in part by activating splicing catalysis or negatively regulating protein phosphatase 1 activity. Its localization and function shift during the cell cycle, indicating roles in cell division. Though mutations are associated with some congenital syndromes, direct disease or drug target roles are not established; WBP11 is studied primarily for its function in nuclear RNA metabolism and protein–protein interactions.
