Overview

WW domain-binding protein 4 (WBP4), also known as formin-binding protein 21 (FBP21), is a spliceosomal protein that plays a role in the assembly and function of the spliceosome, specifically involved in pre-mRNA splicing. The WW domain is a small, globular protein domain that binds to proline-rich motifs and is important for mediating protein-protein interactions within the spliceosomal complex. WBP4 may participate in bridging U1 and U2 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) during formation of the A complex of the spliceosome. Mutations in the WBP4 gene have been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and certain forms of cerebral amyloid angiopathy[1][5][6].
