XIAP is a key regulator of apoptosis, functioning as an E3 ubiquitin ligase and direct inhibitor of caspases 3, 7, and 9. It is implicated in cancer chemoresistance and, when deficient, causes X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome type 2 (XLP2).
