Overview

X-ray radiation resistance associated 1 (XRRA1) is a protein-coding gene identified for its role in the cellular response to X-ray radiation. XRRA1 is expressed in both the cytoplasm and nuclear body and is involved in modulating DNA damage repair, particularly through targeting the ATM/CHK1/2 pathway[1][2][4]. Its expression influences cell cycle dynamics by regulating the G2/M phase checkpoint, and it can promote cell proliferation in colorectal cancer cells. Loss or reduced expression of XRRA1 leads to increased DNA damage signaling and cell cycle arrest, contributing to increased radioresistance and chemoresistance[1][2]. XRRA1 has been proposed as a potential biomarker for tumor radiosensitivity and may be implicated in cancer progression where it acts as a regulator of the genetic response to irradiation stress. No direct drug interactions have been described, but its pathway associations suggest it may be indirectly involved in resistance mechanisms to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
