XIAP antisense RNA 1 (XIAP-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA that regulates the expression of the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) gene. XIAP-AS1 increases XIAP transcription by interacting with the transcription factor Sp1, which results in reduced apoptosis and promotes tumor progression. XIAP-AS1 has been shown to play an oncogenic role, especially in gastric cancer, by facilitating STAT3 activation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) marker expression. Elevated XIAP-AS1 levels have been associated with enhanced tumor cell survival and poorer clinical outcomes. Although XIAP protein is a validated therapeutic target, targeting XIAP-AS1 itself for therapy is still under investigation and has not led to clinically established drugs. XIAP-AS1 may serve as a biomarker for cancer prognosis and response to therapy but is not established as a direct drug target.
