XIRP2 antisense RNA 1 (XIRP2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the XIRP2 gene. It is localized on chromosome 2q24.3 and consists of two exons[4]. XIRP2-AS1 acts as a natural antisense transcript (NAT), modulating the expression of the protein-coding XIRP2 gene or other molecular targets. In colon cancer, XIRP2-AS1 expression is significantly downregulated, and its overexpression inhibits cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and viability while promoting apoptosis. Mechanistically, XIRP2-AS1 negatively regulates miR-182, acting in a tumor-suppressive manner. Lower expression of XIRP2-AS1 is associated with poorer prognosis in colon cancer, making it a promising prognostic biomarker. No direct therapeutic agents or established mechanisms of drug action targeting XIRP2-AS1 are described in current literature[4]. As a noncoding RNA, this molecule is not classified as a conventional therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or ion channel)[2][4].
