Overview

XK related, Y-linked (XKRY) is a probable pseudogene located on the Y chromosome, specifically expressed in the testis, and shows sequence similarity to the XK (X-linked Kell blood group precursor) gene, which encodes a membrane transport protein[1]. XKRY exists as two identical copies within a palindromic region and does not encode a functional protein, distinguishing it from active protein-coding genes on the Y chromosome. Its expression and conservation suggest a possible historical or structural role within the Y chromosome's testis-specific transcriptional program, but no direct functional role, biological pathway, or disease association has been confirmed[1][4].
