XK related 6 (XKR6) is a member of the XK membrane protein family, encoded on human chromosome 8, and predicted to function in the plasma membrane. It may facilitate processes related to apoptosis, including the engulfment of apoptotic cells and phosphatidylserine exposure which signals immune cells. XKR6 has been genetically associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease and ischemic stroke due to specific polymorphisms, and it may have roles in additional conditions including autoimmune diseases. Currently, its molecular function and regulatory mechanisms remain incompletely understood; no pharmacologic agents directly target XKR6, but genetic variants may offer biomarker value in select disease contexts.
