Overview

XKR4 antisense RNA 1 (XKR4-AS1) is a putative long noncoding RNA transcribed antisense to the XKR4 gene. No detailed biochemical or molecular characterization is available in the primary literature or widely-used genomic databases as of this writing. Antisense lncRNAs like XKR4-AS1 are often involved in the regulation of the expression level, splicing, or stability of their sense gene counterparts, but direct evidence for such functions specific to XKR4-AS1 is currently lacking in the literature reviewed. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic safety concerns linked to XKR4-AS1. At present, XKR4-AS1 is not considered a druggable or addressable therapeutic target, but rather part of the large class of noncoding RNAs involved in gene regulatory networks[2]. Additional context: There is substantial primary literature on the protein-coding XKR4 gene, which codes for XK-related protein 4, a phospholipid scramblase implicated in apoptotic membrane dynamics[1][3][5]. However, XKR4-AS1 refers specifically to the noncoding, antisense RNA and should not be confused with the protein-coding gene or its product. If you were seeking information about the protein *XK-related protein 4* (XKR4), please specify, as this has therapeutic relevance and is recognized as a scramblase implicated in apoptosis. Given the current data, no authoritative evidence supports XKR4-AS1 as a therapeutic target or disease biomarker.
