Pseudogenes such as XNDC1CP typically do not code for functional proteins. While some pseudogenes can produce non-coding RNA transcripts that participate in the regulation of gene expression—such as by acting as miRNA decoys, sources of siRNAs, or by competing for RNA-binding proteins—specific evidence for any functional role of XNDC1CP is currently lacking.
