XXYLT1 antisense RNA 2 (XXYLT1-AS2) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the XXYLT1 gene and does not encode a protein[8][7]. It is classified as a lncRNA and functions by regulating gene expression, including modulation of cell proliferation and adhesion, and has been shown to regulate autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma by targeting degradation of the transcription factor TFEB[2][7]. XXYLT1-AS2 is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma plasma, where its silencing leads to reduced tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and induces autophagy, suggesting it has oncogenic properties in this context[2]. As a non-coding regulatory element, it belongs to the family of antisense RNAs and can influence gene expression through diverse pathways such as transcriptional, epigenetic, and post-transcriptional regulation[1]. There are currently no known drugs targeting XXYLT1-AS2, but its elevated expression in disease states makes it a proposed biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in oncology[2][8].
