Y-box binding protein 1 pseudogene 2 (YBX1P2) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene located in the human genome. Unlike the functional YBX1 gene, which encodes an RNA- and DNA-binding protein implicated in transcription, translation, mRNA splicing, DNA repair, and cancer biology, YBX1P2 is not believed to code for any functional protein or participate directly in cellular pathways. Pseudogenes like YBX1P2 generally arise from the duplication or retrotransposition of protein-coding genes and lack coding potential due to mutations or truncation. There is no evidence supporting its role as a therapeutic target or disease biomarker. Any links to cancer or other biological functions pertain to the functional YBX1 gene, not this pseudogene[5].
