Y-box binding protein 1 pseudogene 7 (YBX1P7)

Target
YBX1P7
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (putative, if transcribed)
01

Overview

Y-box binding protein 1 pseudogene 7 (YBX1P7) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA with high sequence similarity to the Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1) gene, a widely studied nucleic acid-binding protein involved in processes such as transcription, splicing, and translation. As a pseudogene, YBX1P7 does not encode a functional protein and is generally not transcribed or translated in a way that contributes to cellular function. While pseudogenes can sometimes regulate their parental genes or engage in regulatory RNA functions, there is no current evidence that YBX1P7 carries out such roles. It is not considered a molecular target for therapy or research focus in the context of receptors, enzymes, transporters, or similar proteins. Key context: The canonical functional gene is Y-box binding protein 1 (commonly abbreviated YB-1 or YBX1), which is a major nucleic acid-binding protein implicated as an oncogenic factor and therapeutic target in many cancers. YBX1P7 is a nonfunctional copy (pseudogene) of this gene, without known direct biological or disease relevance of its own. Pseudogenes, such as YBX1P7, may from time to time have regulatory functions through noncoding RNAs, but these cases are gene-specific and not generally applicable or proven for this locus.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable, as there are no drugs targeting YBX1P7.

03

Biological functions

No confirmed functional activity. However, some pseudogenes can produce noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression (e.g., via RNA interference or "miRNA decoy" functions), but there is no evidence specifically for YBX1P7 in this regard.
04

Disease associations

None specific to YBX1P7. Some pseudogenes have roles in cancer or other diseases via regulation of related protein-coding genes, but no such evidence is reported for YBX1P7.
