Target intelligence / Profile preview
The F1 capsular antigen is a major surface component of *Yersinia pestis*, the bacterium responsible for plague. It forms a capsule-like structure around the bacterium, which is highly expressed at mammalian body temperature. The capsule is composed of polymeric protein fibrils made up of repeating units of the Caf1 protein subunit. It inhibits phagocytosis by host macrophages, contributing to immune evasion during infection and is a target for vaccine development.
