Overview

Yip1 domain family member 1 (YIPF1) is a multi-span transmembrane protein localized primarily in the *trans*-Golgi compartment[1][3]. It is part of the YIPF protein family, which is widely conserved across eukaryotes and plays a central role in intracellular membrane trafficking, particularly from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi apparatus and within Golgi compartments[1][2][3]. YIPF1 forms heteromeric complexes—most notably with YIPF6—serving as structural components required for the proper organization and trafficking of vesicles inside the Golgi[3]. Despite its fundamental housekeeping roles, knock-out models of YIPF1 in mice have shown no observable phenotype, indicating high redundancy or non-essentiality under normal conditions[1]. YIPF1 is not recognized as a direct drug target, disease biomarker, or safety concern in current biomedical research[1][2][3].
