Overview

Yip1 domain family member 3 (YIPF3) is a Golgi-resident transmembrane protein involved in the maintenance of Golgi apparatus structure and acts as a selective autophagy (Golgiphagy) receptor by binding ATG8 family proteins through its cytosolic N-terminal LIR motif, which is regulated by phosphorylation. The YIPF3–YIPF4 complex is essential for targeting Golgi fragments to lysosomes for degradation during autophagy, particularly under starvation. YIPF3 is expressed in various tissues and may also have a role in hematopoiesis and cell differentiation. Mutations or dysfunction in YIPF3 are associated with certain congenital diseases, but there is no evidence it is a current therapeutic target or interacts with drugs[1][2][3][4][5].
