Overview

YjeF N-terminal domain-containing protein 3 (YJEFN3) is a human protein encoded by the YJEFN3 gene and features a YjeF N-terminal domain, a fold associated with enzymatic activity in other proteins but whose specific function in YJEFN3 remains under investigation. It is predicted to catalyze NAD(P)HX epimerase activity. Functionally, it has been implicated in accelerating cholesterol efflux from endothelial cells to HDL and in regulating angiogenesis. YJEFN3 is also suggested to play a role in hematopoietic stem cell emergence via cholesterol metabolism signaling, and may participate in membrane raft distribution and gametogenesis. While not currently classified as a classical drug target (such as a receptor or enzyme with approved small molecule modulators), it is implicated in cell signaling and metabolic pathways linked to vascular and hematopoietic systems [5][6][2][1].
