YME1-like 1 pseudogene (LOC100420187, ENSG00000240296) is a non-coding genomic sequence with high similarity to the functional YME1L1 gene, which encodes a mitochondrial ATP-dependent metalloprotease involved in mitochondrial quality control and morphology. However, as a pseudogene, LOC100420187 does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target or involved in any known disease mechanisms or drug interactions[8]. Reports and functional studies describing YME1L1's biological roles, such as regulation of apoptosis and mitochondrial function[1][2][4][6], do not pertain to this pseudogene, but to the active, protein-coding YME1L1 gene. The LOC100420187 pseudogene lacks evidence of transcriptional or translational activity and serves no currently recognized cell biological or pathological function[8].
