YWHAZP2 is a processed pseudogene of the functional YWHAZ gene, which encodes 14-3-3 protein zeta/delta, a central hub in signal transduction, apoptosis regulation, and several major diseases. There are nine YWHAZ-related pseudogenes in the human genome, including YWHAZP2, that share high homology to the parental gene but lack introns and are generally non-functional; some may exert regulatory influence at the RNA level or be associated with disease-related chromosomal regions, but there is no direct evidence of YWHAZP2 encoding a functional protein or acting as a drug target[1][7]. The functional protein YWHAZ (not the pseudogene) is well-established in cancer, metabolic regulation, and apoptosis, but pseudogenes such as YWHAZP2 are considered non-coding genomic elements[1][3][8].
