YY1-associated factor 2 (YAF2) is a zinc finger-containing protein primarily involved in the regulation of transcription. It was identified as an interacting partner of the transcriptional repressor YY1 and can modulate the activity of several transcriptional regulators, including Myc and Polycomb complexes. YAF2 influences gene expression by acting as both a transcriptional coactivator and corepressor, participates in chromatin remodeling, and facilitates the proteolysis of YY1, antagonizing its repressive function. It plays a role in cell survival, apoptosis (including the regulation of pro-apoptotic factors such as PDCD5 and antiapoptotic factors like FANK1), and may be implicated in the cellular response to DNA damage and tumorigenesis. Mutations or altered expression of YAF2 have been associated with conditions such as progressive myoclonus epilepsy and pontocerebellar hypoplasia[1][2][3][4][6].
