YY2 transcription factor is a zinc finger DNA-binding protein and paralog of YY1, containing multiple Kruppel-like zinc fingers in its C-terminal region that enable it to perform both activation and repression of gene transcription. YY2 exhibits homology and overlapping functionality with YY1 but also has non-redundant roles in gene regulation, counteracting YY1 activity in certain contexts and exerting unique effects in cell proliferation, cancer biology (as a tumor suppressor through modulation of ferroptosis and metastasis suppressors), stem cell maintenance, tissue development, differentiation, and bone physiology. YY2 regulates a distinct subset of genes, influences responses to DNA damage, and its binding to enhancer regions can modulate gene expression relevant to specific diseases such as osteoporosis and various cancers
