Overview

ZBED5 antisense RNA 1 (ZBED5-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed antisense to the ZBED5 gene, a zinc-finger transcription factor[1][2][5]. ZBED5-AS1 acts as a cis-acting regulatory RNA, modulating gene expression without encoding a protein[1][5]. Its molecular role is largely uncharacterized, but functional studies reveal it promotes cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibits apoptosis in lung adenocarcinoma cells by activating the ZNF146/ATR/Chk1 signaling axis and inducing the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT)[4]. ZBED5-AS1 is upregulated in lung adenocarcinoma tissues and associated with aggressive tumor features such as elevated serum LDH and D-dimer levels, indicating a malignant phenotype[4]. Its expression is transferred via cancer-derived exosomes, promoting intercellular communication and tumor progression[4]. There are no known drugs targeting ZBED5-AS1 and no reported direct safety concerns from its modulation, though its functional importance in cancer biology suggests potential therapeutic interest[2][4][7].
