ZBED9 antisense RNA 1 (ZBED9-AS1)

Target
ZBED9-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Other (does not fit into protein-coding categories like enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc.)

Overview

ZBED9 antisense RNA 1 (ZBED9-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene transcribed from the 6p22.1 region opposite to (i.e., antisense to) the protein-coding zinc finger BED-type containing 9 (ZBED9) gene[3][7]. There is currently no direct functional or mechanistic evaluation of ZBED9-AS1 described in the published literature. By analogy with other antisense lncRNAs, it may be involved in the regulation of expression of the adjacent ZBED9 gene via transcriptional interference, splicing regulation, mRNA stability, or epigenetic mechanisms, but no such specific functions have been demonstrated for ZBED9-AS1 as of the latest available research[3][7][1][2]. It does not encode a protein, does not function as a classical receptor, enzyme, or drug target, and is not directly associated with disease or therapeutic intervention.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable. No known drugs or drug-like molecules target ZBED9-AS1, and its mechanism is not characterized.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (primarily of the ZBED9 locus, if any; direct evidence lacking for ZBED9-AS1, but consistent with antisense lncRNA functions)Possible influence on transcription, splicing, or mRNA stability of coding genes in the same locus
04

Disease associations

Cancer (general antisense lncRNAs are implicated in oncogenesis and regulation of cancer pathways, but no data shows a cancer role for ZBED9-AS1)Other: potential involvement in epigenetic regulation, based on lncRNA properties
