Molecular classification

Overview

ZBTB7C antisense RNA 2 (ZBTB7C-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 18 and is transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the ZBTB7C gene. Antisense RNAs, such as ZBTB7C-AS2, generally act via RNA-mediated mechanisms to regulate the transcription, stability, or translation of their sense partner gene (in this case, ZBTB7C)—a proto-oncoprotein with roles in cell cycle, metabolism, and transcriptional repression. While the broader class of antisense RNAs can be involved in a variety of regulatory processes in mammals, including chromatin modification and gene silencing, there is currently no evidence in the provided literature that ZBTB7C-AS2 itself is a therapeutic target, biomarker, or directly implicated in human disease pathogenesis.
