ZEB2 antisense RNA 1 (ZEB2-AS1)

Target
ZEB2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

ZEB2 antisense RNA 1 is an antisense lncRNA transcribed from the ZEB2 locus, overlapping a major intron that contains an internal ribosome entry site (IRES). Its expression regulates ZEB2 protein by blocking intron 1 splicing, which increases ZEB2 translation, promotes EMT through E-cadherin repression, and has been implicated in multiple cancers due to its role in cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis. Therapeutic silencing of ZEB2-AS1 can enhance pluripotency by relieving endogenous repression. As a non-protein coding RNA, it is emerging as a potential target for novel nucleic acid-based therapies and serves as a biomarker for poor prognosis and aggressive tumor behavior in several cancers.
