Overview

ZFHX4 antisense RNA 1 (ZFHX4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 8q21.13[1]. It does not encode a protein but functions as an antisense transcript for the ZFHX4 gene, modulating the expression of sense mRNA through RNA-RNA interactions[2]. ZFHX4-AS1 is aberrantly upregulated in several types of human cancer, including adrenocortical carcinoma, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, and glioma[1][3][4]. Biological studies indicate that ZFHX4-AS1 promotes cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, possibly through competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks and by regulating pathways related to cell cycle and metastasis[1][3]. High expression of ZFHX4-AS1 is correlated with poorer prognosis in multiple cancers and has potential as a prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target, especially in adrenocortical carcinoma and ovarian cancer, but it is not currently a direct therapeutic target with known drugs[1][3][4]. There is no evidence of direct safety concerns or currently approved drugs specifically targeting this lncRNA.
