Overview

ZFPM2 antisense RNA 1 (ZFPM2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) located on human chromosome 8q23.1 that functions as an oncogenic regulator in multiple tumors[1][2][4]. It is upregulated in various cancer types and its high expression is associated with poor prognosis and aggressive clinical features. Mechanistically, ZFPM2-AS1 modulates cell proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis, and metastasis, and impacts the tumor immune microenvironment, in part by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (miRNA sponge) and interacting with transcripts such as NUP107 and C8orf76[1][2]. ZFPM2-AS1 has reported involvement in cancer-related immune evasion and correlates with the expression of immune checkpoint molecules. It is emerging as a prognostic biomarker and may be a potential immune therapeutic target, though there are no clinically approved drugs that directly target ZFPM2-AS1 at this stage[1].
