Overview

ZFX antisense RNA 1 (ZFX-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the ZFX gene locus[4]. As a non-protein coding transcript classified as an antisense RNA, it typically regulates the expression of its overlapping protein-coding partner gene (ZFX) at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional levels[6]. Antisense RNAs, including ZFX-AS1, can modulate gene expression through diverse mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or stabilization/destabilization of the sense mRNA[6]. While the exact biological and clinical significance of ZFX-AS1 itself remains poorly characterized in the publicly available literature, lncRNAs of this class are broadly implicated in processes like cell proliferation, differentiation, and tumorigenesis, especially in the context of their protein-coding partner gene’s function. ZFX, the sense gene, is a zinc finger transcription factor involved in transcriptional activation and cancer biology[1]. No known direct drug interactors or validated biomarker or safety data specific to ZFX-AS1 are available in major gene/protein databases as of now[4].
