Zic family member 4 (ZIC4) is a transcription factor belonging to the ZIC family of C2H2-type zinc finger proteins, characterized by a zinc finger DNA-binding domain consisting of five Cys2His2-type zinc fingers[1][2][3]. ZIC4 plays a critical role in neural development and organogenesis, particularly in the patterning and differentiation of the cerebellum and other neural structures[1][3]. Mutations or deletions of ZIC4 are associated with congenital neurological disorders such as Dandy-Walker malformation[3]. Unlike some of its family members, ZIC4 is characterized by the absence of a ZOC box and certain regulatory motifs, which distinguishes its function among ZIC proteins[1][2]. While ZIC4 is essential for normal development, there is no current evidence establishing it as a direct therapeutic target or associating it with any approved drug interactions[3].
