Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 17 (ZBTB17; also known as Miz-1) is a transcription factor comprising C2H2-type zinc fingers and a BTB/POZ domain. It acts as both a transcriptional activator and repressor depending on binding partners, including direct interaction with the oncogene Myc. ZBTB17 is essential for early lymphocyte (T- and B-cell) development by preventing apoptosis of precursors and is required for normal embryogenesis during gastrulation. It regulates key genes, such as cyclin D1 and RB1, influencing cell cycle progression and lineage fate. Aberrant function or expression of ZBTB17 is implicated in various cancers, developmental syndromes, and immune disorders.
