Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 40 (ZBTB40) is a member of the BTB-ZF (Broad-complex, Tramtrack, Bric-à-brac-Zinc Finger) protein family, characterized as a DNA-binding transcription factor with a role in cell differentiation and stem cell self-renewal[1][3][5]. ZBTB40 is involved in regulating osteoblast function and mineralization, critical for bone formation and bone mineral density[1]. Studies have shown that knockdown or disruption of ZBTB40 impairs osteoblast maturation and matrix mineralization, implicating it in bone disorders such as osteoporosis[1]. It is also classified as a telomere-associated protein, participating in telomere protection in human cells[6]. ZBTB40 is located in the cell nucleus and has been identified in studies related to cancer, autism spectrum disorder, and limb deficiency syndromes[4][5][6]. Despite overlaps with disease loci and research focus, there is currently no evidence supporting ZBTB40 as a direct therapeutic target or as interacting with specific drugs.
