Overview

Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 42 (ZBTB42) is a nuclear protein belonging to the C2H2 zinc finger protein family, possessing a BTB (pox virus and zinc finger, or POZ) domain at the N-terminus and four C-terminal zinc finger domains. It functions as a DNA-binding transcriptional repressor and is presumed to recruit chromatin remodeling multiprotein complexes. ZBTB42 is primarily expressed in the nuclei of skeletal muscle cells and is involved in skeletal muscle development; disruption of ZBTB42 can lead to abnormal muscle formation and has been associated with lethal congenital contracture syndrome, a severe inherited muscle-wasting disorder[1][2][3][5].
