Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 9 (ZBTB9) is a transcription factor characterized by the presence of both zinc finger motifs and a BTB (POZ) domain, conferring DNA binding and protein-protein interaction capabilities. It is predicted to regulate gene expression via RNA polymerase II and is mainly localized to the nucleus[4][5]. ZBTB9 is overexpressed in a range of cancers, most notably liver hepatocellular carcinoma, where its upregulation correlates with increased tumor grade, stage, and poor prognosis[2]. Mechanistically, it may drive tumorigenesis through the activation of cell cycle, DNA repair, MYC, and KRAS-related pathways, as well as contributing to immune evasion in the tumor microenvironment[2]. Knockdown experiments suggest that ZBTB9 promotes tumor cell proliferation and migration. It therefore represents a potential therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in oncology, although direct drugs or inhibitors are not yet documented.
