Overview

Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 10 (ZSCAN10) is a protein encoded by the ZSCAN10 gene, belonging to the ZSCAN family of transcription factors characterized by their zinc finger and SCAN (SRE-ZBP, CTfin51, AW-1, and Number 18 cDNA) protein-protein interaction domains[1][2][3]. ZSCAN10 is predicted to act as a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor, primarily regulating the expression of genes involved in stem cell maintenance, differentiation, and development, and may act as both an activator and a repressor of transcription depending on context[1][2]. It is specifically required to maintain embryonic stem cell pluripotency and regulates pluripotency genes such as POU5F1/OCT4[1]. Disease associations include various neurodevelopmental disorders and possible roles in cancer through modulation of gene expression related to proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis[1][2][3]. No direct pharmacological inhibitors or drugs are currently reported to act on ZSCAN10 itself, and it is not considered a classic therapeutic target but rather a key transcriptional regulator implicated in disease biology[1][2][3].
