Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 2 (ZSCAN2) is a transcription factor characterized by multiple zinc finger motifs of the C2H2 type and a SCAN (leucine-rich) domain. The zinc finger motifs enable sequence-specific DNA binding, while the SCAN domain facilitates protein-protein interactions, particularly dimerization with other SCAN domain-containing proteins. ZSCAN2 is a protein-coding gene broadly classified within the family of zinc finger transcription factors. Its primary biological role is believed to be transcriptional regulation, with evidence supporting involvement in post-meiotic stages of spermatogenesis, especially in germ cells during embryonic development in mice. Alternative splicing results in several isoforms, and common paralogs include ZSCAN20. Disease associations include links to prostate cancer and pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 10, although direct functional or mechanistic involvement remains unclear. ZSCAN2 has not been established as a therapeutic target or as a biomarker, and no drugs are documented that specifically target or interact with this protein.
