Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 20 (ZSCAN20) is a member of the ZSCAN family of transcription factors, which are characterized by the presence of C2H2-type zinc finger domains for DNA binding and a SCAN domain that mediates protein-protein interactions. ZSCAN transcription factors, including ZSCAN20, are generally implicated in the regulation of gene expression through binding to specific DNA sequences, often functioning as transcriptional regulators. Although the detailed biological function of ZSCAN20 itself remains incompletely described, members of this family are involved in broad biological processes such as cell differentiation, proliferation, and potentially tumor progression. The SCAN domain enables oligomerization and selective interactions with other transcription factors, adding complexity to their regulatory roles. ZSCAN transcription factors overall are reported to play roles in cancer, but ZSCAN20 is not currently established as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known clinical drugs specifically directed at this protein[1][4][5].
