Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 23 (ZSCAN23)

Target
ZSCAN23
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, C2H2-type zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 23 (ZSCAN23) is a member of the ZSCAN family of transcription factors, characterized by the presence of a C2H2-type zinc finger DNA-binding domain and an N-terminal SCAN domain, which mediates protein-protein interactions[5][2]. ZSCAN23 is predicted to function in the sequence-specific regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and localizes to the nucleus[5][4]. While its precise biological roles remain to be experimentally clarified, the broader ZSCAN family plays important roles in gene expression, cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and cancer biology, often through combinatorial regulation and complex formation facilitated by the SCAN domain[2]. No drugs are currently reported to interact directly with ZSCAN23, and it is not established as a therapeutic target.
