ZSCAN26
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein (C2H2-type), SCAN domain-containing protein

Overview

Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 26 (ZSCAN26) is a member of the ZSCAN family of transcription factors, characterized by a C2H2-type zinc finger domain that mediates sequence-specific DNA binding and a conserved SCAN domain that facilitates protein-protein interactions[2][3][4][6]. ZSCAN26 is predicted to function as a DNA-binding transcription factor, regulating the expression of genes by RNA polymerase II, and is primarily located in the cytosol and nucleoplasm[4][7]. While the ZSCAN family as a whole plays diverse roles in gene regulation related to processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and cancer biology, direct evidence linking ZSCAN26 specifically to individual diseases, therapeutic targeting, or drug interactions is currently lacking[1][2][3][4]. The SCAN domain enables dimerization or oligomerization with other SCAN-containing proteins, which may modulate its transcriptional activity and biological effects[1][2][6].
