Overview

Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 32 (ZSCAN32) is a member of the ZSCAN family of transcription factors, characterized by the presence of C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and a SCAN domain[3][5][6]. The zinc finger motif enables DNA binding, targeting specific cis-acting elements to regulate gene transcription[1][3][5]. The SCAN domain, a conserved amphipathic structure rich in leucine, mediates protein–protein interactions such as oligomerization and heterodimerization with other SCAN domain proteins, influencing transcriptional activity and regulatory specificity[1][5]. As part of the transcription factor class, ZSCAN32 may participate in controlling gene expression related to differentiation, metabolism, apoptosis, and other cellular processes, although little is known about its individual disease associations or functional specificity apart from its broader family role[1][3][6]. ZSCAN32 is a protein-coding gene with expression detected in multiple tissues[2][6]. There is no evidence supporting ZSCAN32 as a direct drug target, clinical biomarker, or associated with known drug safety concerns as of the current literature[3][6].
