Zinc Finger and SCAN Domain Containing Protein 4 (ZSCAN4)

Target
ZSCAN4
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, SCAN domain protein
01

Overview

ZSCAN4 is a zinc finger transcription factor containing a SCAN domain, crucial for telomere maintenance and genomic stability, particularly in embryonic stem cells. It functions as an embryonic stem cell-specific transcription factor required to regulate ES cell pluripotency. The SCAN domain mediates self-association and association with other SCAN domain proteins. ZSCAN4 binds to telomeres to maintain their length and stability, preventing cellular senescence. Its dysregulation could potentially contribute to genomic instability, a hallmark of cancer and other diseases. It is expressed in embryonic stem cells and preimplantation embryos.
