ZSCAN5A
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein (C2H2-type), SCAN domain protein

Overview

Zinc finger and SCAN domain-containing protein 5A (ZSCAN5A) is a member of the zinc finger protein family, characterized by C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and a SCAN domain[3][5]. ZSCAN5A functions as a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor predicted to regulate transcription by RNA polymerase II[3]. Like other zinc finger transcription factors, it likely participates in a range of cellular processes including gene regulation, differentiation, and chromatin organization[1][3][6]. ZSCAN5A is encoded by the ZSCAN5A gene and is mainly localized in the nucleus[3]. Though its precise biological and pathological roles are not fully elucidated, mutations and altered expression of related zinc finger proteins have been associated with diverse diseases, notably cancer, but ZSCAN5A itself is not currently an established drug target or widely recognized clinical biomarker[1][3].
