Overview

Zinc finger CCCH domain-containing protein 11A (ZC3H11A) is an RNA-binding protein characterized by three CCCH-type zinc finger motifs, predominantly located at the N-terminus of the protein[1][2][7]. As a subunit of the transcription export (TREX) complex, it plays a critical role in the export of polyadenylated mRNA from the nucleus and is involved in mRNA processing and gene expression regulation[1][4][5]. ZC3H11A is essential for viral replication by facilitating the export of viral and cellular mRNAs, is upregulated under stress conditions, and influences NF-κB signaling by regulating the nuclear export of key inhibitory factors[2][7]. It is required for normal embryonic development, with knockout studies indicating crucial roles in glycolysis, fatty acid metabolism, and overall embryonic cell viability[5]. Dysregulation or high expression of ZC3H11A has been observed in several cancers, with emerging evidence suggesting it may enhance cell proliferation and suppress apoptosis[7]. Loss of ZC3H11A function can induce immunogenic cell death, making it a potential target for therapeutic intervention in oncology and infectious diseases[7]. No approved drugs are currently known to specifically target ZC3H11A, and complete inhibition poses significant risk due to its essential physiological functions.
