Overview

Zinc finger CCCH domain-containing protein 13 (ZC3H13) is an RNA-binding protein integral to the m6A methyltransferase complex that regulates N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modifications on mRNA, particularly at 3' untranslated regions. ZC3H13 helps retain complex members (WTAP, Virilizer, Hakai) in the nucleus, thereby controlling mRNA splicing, processing, and stem cell pluripotency. In cancer, notably acute myeloid leukemia, ZC3H13 promotes cell proliferation, enhances metabolic activity, and suppresses apoptosis and oxidative stress. Loss of ZC3H13 impairs m6A methylation globally and triggers differentiation in stem cells. The gene is conserved evolutionarily (with orthologs in Drosophila and plants) and associated with cancer and developmental disorders
