Overview

Zinc finger CCCH domain-containing protein 5 (ZC3H5), also known as RING finger protein unkempt homolog or UNK, is a member of the CCCH-type zinc finger protein family, characterized by three cysteine and one histidine residues that coordinate a zinc ion in its structural motif[2][4]. CCCH-type zinc finger proteins primarily function as RNA-binding proteins that regulate processes such as mRNA export, stability, and degradation and are involved in transcriptional regulation. These proteins play essential roles in RNA metabolism and cell development, and have been associated with key biological functions in eukaryotes, such as gene expression regulation and protein-protein interaction[3][4]. While CCCH-type zinc finger proteins are implicated in viral infection, inflammation, and cancer, there is currently limited direct evidence linking ZC3H5 specifically to these disease processes. No drugs are known to interact with ZC3H5, and it is not established as a biomarker or clinical target, but its molecular features make it of interest for therapeutic or research applications in RNA metabolism and gene regulation[4][3][2].
